Mehtarlam, Afghanistan: Security forces have killed at least three Islamic State (IS) militants in Afghanistan's eastern Laghman province, a local official said on Friday.

Afghan security forces ambushed a group of IS militants in Kunda Gul area of the province's Alingar district late Thursday, Salahuddin Zahid, a spokesperson for the provincial governor, told Xinhua.

Among the killed was Commander Firuz, the IS group's designated governor for Laghman province, he said.

Last week, three hardliners affiliated with the IS group, also known as Daesh in Afghanistan, were killed and 40 pieces of weapons were seized in the country's northern Samangan province.
