Afghanistan: 50 killed in airport attack

Kandahar , Dec 10 (IBNS): More than 50 people, which included 14 terrorists, were killed as insurgents stormed and launched an attack on the airport in southern Kandahar province , media reports said on Thursday.

The attack, which  lasted for 20 hours, left 35 others injured.

Gen. Daud Shah Wafadar, the 205 Atal Military Corps commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Wednesday afternoon at the airport that the attack began after 6pm on Tuesday.

Fourteen attackers, who were laced with light and heavy weapons and hand grenades, moved into the airport to launch the attack.

All the 14 attackers were killed in the 20 hours seize.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
