WC: India heading towards victory against Pakistan
Adelaide, Feb 15 (IBNS): Pakistan were 220 for nine in the 45th over as India headed for a big win in their World Cup encounter against arch rival here on Sunday.
Pakistan seemed far away from the 301 run target India set for them.
Pakistan batsmen surrendered one after another to Indian bowling. Mohammed Shami of India took three wickets conceding only 35 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq was the only batsman of Pakistan putting up a fight but he was caught at 76 runs (84 balls).
Earlier, Team India made 300 runs after playing 50 overs in its first high voltage encounter with Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 losing seven wickets.
Pakistani bowler Sohail Khan had picked up 5 wickets against India.
In a major blow, India started losing some crucial wickets successively in the last few overs like that of skipper MS Dhoni, Vice Captain Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane.
However, Team Blue made it to 300 riding on the shoulders of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina.
Kohli tried to go out for a big shot when Akmal took the catch. He was out after making 107.
Sohail Khan earlier got a big wicket for Pakistan with Suresh Raina's fall.
Raina made 74 from just 56 balls.
Pakistan earlier gained some fillip as they dismissed Shikhar Dhawan in a run-out in their first encounter with India on Sunday.
Dhawan left the crease at 73.
While India won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in their first World Cup match here on Sunday, Indian fans received an early disappointment when Rohit Sharma exited the field by giving a simple catch to Misbah-ul-Haq.
India lost an early wicket in the high voltage match against Pakistan.
Following Sharma's wicket, Virat Kohli came to the crease.
All hopes are now pinned on Kohli and Suresh Raina, who are dominating the field.
India are at 296/4 after 48.4 overs.
India are the current world champions.
Incidentally, they have never lost a World Cup match against Pakistan.
