Pranavi Urs produced a composed display and withstood a late challenge from her rivals to create history, becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win an Asian Games gold medal on Saturday.

Urs defeated her closest challengers, Singapore’s Shannon Tan and China’s Yin Ruoning, by a single stroke at the Kasugai Country Club East Course to add another gold medal to India’s tally.

Pranavi carded a 15-under 265 to finish at the top of the leaderboard. She needed to save par on the 18th hole to secure the gold after entering the final hole with a one-shot lead.

PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl praised Urs’ performance, telling Hindustan Times: “Pranavi Urs has delivered a remarkable performance at the Asian Games, and her historic gold medal is a proud moment for Indian golf. Her composure, consistency and belief throughout the competition have been truly impressive.”

Johl also hailed the Indian women’s team for securing the silver medal, adding that the result reflected the growing strength of women’s golf in the country.

“Equally, the women’s team silver medal is a testament to the depth and growing strength of women’s golf in India. We are delighted to see Pranavi, Aditi and Diksha perform on such a prestigious stage and put Indian golf firmly in the spotlight. Their achievements will inspire the next generation of Indian golfers,” he said.

“We at the DP World PGTI extend our heartiest congratulations to Pranavi and the Indian women’s team on this memorable success,” Johl added.

Alongside her individual gold, Urs also helped India secure the women’s team silver medal, further boosting the country’s medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games.

Aditi Ashok carded a 67 while Diksha Dagar returned a 77 in the final round, with Urs’ performance ensuring India finished second in the team event.

China won the team gold with a combined score of 22-under 538.
