Tim Paine says some cricketers might be uncomfortable touring Pakistan next year

Sydney: Australian Test team captain Tim Paine has said some cricketers might not be comfortable touring Pakistan next year amid security situation in the region.

“There’ll be some guys who will be happy to take the experts’ advice and others will want to know a bit more,” Paine said on SEN on Tuesday morning as quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald.

“If we’re totally honest, there might be some people who aren’t comfortable going regardless," the skipper said.

“That’s happened before with tours going to other countries going back forever. Again there are issues that will I’m sure pop up. We’ll discuss it, people get the right answers and feel comfortable, then we’ll get hopefully the best team we can. At the end of the day, it comes down to the individual," Paine said.

In 2017, Time Paine was part of a World XI that toured Pakistan to play exhibition matches.

Australia will tour Pakistan in 2022, 24 years after it visited the nation to play cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed on Monday.

The last time an Australian squad visited Pakistan to play a series was in 1998.

The upcoming tour will consist of three tests, three ODIs and a T20 I.

The Tests will take place in Karachi (3-7 March), Rawalpindi (12-16 March) and Lahore (21-25 March), while Lahore will be the venue for the four white-ball matches to be played from 29 March to 5 April.

The Tests will be played as part of the ICC World Test Championship, while the ODIs will be connected to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League – a 13-team event from which the seven highest-placed sides and the hosts, India, will qualify directly for the event proper in 2023.
