Zurich/UNI: For the first time ever, World Cup 2026 will have three host countries and will also feature 48 teams, world football governing body FIFA announced Friday.

The matches will be played in 16 cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The list of venues includes 11 US cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle.

The US will host 60 of the 80 matches under FIFA’s plan, including all matches from the quarterfinal round of the knockout stage onward. It’s the first time the U.S. will host men's World Cup matches since 1994.

The cities officially selected to host World Cup matches in Mexico are: Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. Canada will host matches in Vancouver and Toronto.

Canada is hosting men’s World Cup matches for the first time.

"Today is a historic day -- for everyone in those cities and states -- for FIFA, for Canada, the USA and Mexico who will put on the greatest show on Earth.

"We look forward to working together with them to deliver what will be an unprecedented World Cup and a game-changer as we strive to make football truly global," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
