Second Test against India: England selectors add Saqib Mahmood

London/UNI: Fast bowler Saqib Mahmood has been added to England squad as cover for the second Test against India, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Wednesday.

'Seamer @SaqMahmood25 has been added to our squad as cover for the second Test against India. Spinner Dom Bess will leave the squad and return to Yorkshire,' the board said in a tweet.

Mahmood's call-up came with veteran pacer Stuart Broad facing a calf injury which may rule him out of the second Test, starting on Thursday.

Broad, 35, is awaiting the results of a scan after appearing to slip while undertaking a light warm-up jog during training. He will be assessed by physios before a decision is made over his availability for what would be his 150th Test.

The veteran pacer had claimed KL Rahul's wicket in India's first innings on the fourth day of the first day before rain washed out an intriguing final day.

He currently has 524 wickets at 27.84 in his 149 Tests to date, placing him sixth on the all-time Test wicket-takers list.

Mahmood, 24, is uncapped at Test level but he was named man of the series during the recent white-ball series against Pakistan.

The first Test of the five-match series between England and India at Trent Bridge ended in a draw on Sunday. With the game evenly poised, both teams were left frustrated on the final day as the game was called off without a ball being bowled.

England and India are all square at 0-0 after rain-marred first Test of the five-match series at Trent Bridge ended in a draw on Sunday.
