| @indiablooms | Dec 23, 2023, at 05:28 pm

India's star batter Virat Kohli has returned home due to a family emergency ahead of India's two-match Test series against South Africa starting next week, media reports said.

However, Kohli is likely to be back in South Africa before the first Test, which will begin on December 26.

Earlier, India's batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the Test series due to a fracture in his finger.

The Test series in South Africa will mark Kohli's return to the national side a month after he took a break following the ODI World Cup 2023.

India captain Rohit Sharma, pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will also be back for their national duties from the series.
