Antigua, July 25 (IBNS): Ravichandran Ashwin performed brilliantly as he picked up seven wickets to destroy the West Indies batting line-up and help India script a victory by an innings and 92 runs over the current T20 World Champions in the first Test of the four-match series here on Sunday.

After putting up a massive  566 for eight declared in their first innings, India bowled out the opponents twice, making them score 243 and then 231 in their second innings.

Ashwin's third career seven-wicket haul, with a figure of 7-83, was instrumental in bowling out the opponents for 231.

This was his first seven-wicket haul outside India.

Ashwin had failed to pick up a single wicket in the first innings which was dominated by the Indian fast bowlers.

Apart from Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra and Umesh Yadav picked up a single wicket each for India.

Batting at number nine, Carlos Brathwaite remained the top scorer for the home side as he scored 51 not out.

Marlon Samuels (50) and Devendra Bishoo (45) contributed some runs with their bats to delay the inevitable.

Ashwin had smashed 113 runs in the first innings while Virat Kohli hit 200 runs.

The second Test of the series will be played in Kingston, Jamaica from Saturday.
