"Pietersen has been misled and mistreated"

London, May 12 (IBNS): Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that batsman Kevin Pietersen has been 'misled and mistreated' by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

"He's been misled and mistreated," Vaughan told BBC Sport.

Shattering all hopes, England's newly-appointed director of cricket Andrew Strauss has said there was a 'trust issue' with Kevin Pietersen.

Pietersen will not play for the national team this summer.

Strauss was quoted as saying by BBC: ""Now is the time for us to be really open about the Kevin Pietersen situation - people have been running away from it for years."

"The truth about Kevin is that he is a phenomenal cricketer. But over months and years, trust has eroded between Kevin Pietersen and the ECB," he said.

"There is a massive trust issue between me and Kevin," the former England player said.

"While there is no trust between Kevin and the ECB, it is our opinion he cannot feature in our short-term plans. Long-term, who knows?" he said.

Pietersen has smashed unbeaten 355 runs in a domestic match for Surrey against Leicestershire.

Meanwhile reacting to Strauss remarks, former England spinner Shane Warne tweeted: "Read that my old mate Strauss has said KP won't play for Eng, but offered him an advisory role to help Eng ? What the ? Serious ? #shambles."

"If Strauss wanted instant public acceptance & the whole country to support Eng again, he should have said, "I want KP back in the team" !!!" he said.
