ODI: Sri Lanka defeats India in a rain affected match, India win the series 2-1

Colombo/UNI: Sri Lanka defeated India by three wickets in a rain affected match here in Colombo on Friday.

Batting first India were bowled out for 225 in 43.1 overs and in reply Sri Lanka made 227 for 7.

Earlier India won the toss and opted to bat, but lost Shikar Dhawan early caught behind off Dushmantha Chameera for 13. But Pritvi Shaw and debutant Sanju Samson steadied the innings with a 74 run stand.

Once India crossed the 100 run mark it lost Shaw and Samson in quick succession for 49 and 46 respectively.

This brought Suryakumar Yadav and Manish Pandey who took India to 157/3 when rain interrupted the match.

On resumption the match was reduced to a 47-overs-a-side affair. But India lost its momentum and fell to 195/8 with none of the lower order batsmen adding much to the total, with Pandey(11), Hardik Pandya(19), Nitish Rana(7), K Gowtaham(2), except Yadav who made a 37-ball 40. For Sri Lanka Akila Dananajaya and Praveen Jayawickrama taking three wickets each.

Sri Lanka lost Minod Bhanuka early to Gowtham who took his maiden international wicket. however, Fernando and Rajapakse made half centuries and steadied the Lankan innings. Their dismissal saw a Sri Lankan slide but the side had collectively done enough to see them through and they won the match in the 39th over.
