Melbourne/UNI: Former World no. 1 tennis player Naomi Osaka on Saturday withdrew from the Australian Open warm up tournament due to an abdominal injury.

Osaka was scheduled to take on Veronika Kudermetova in the semifinals of the Melbourne Summer Set.

"Sad to withdraw due to injury from my match today, my body got a shock from playing back to back intense matches after the break I took. Thank you for all the love this past week. I’ll try to rest up and I’ll see you soon!," Osaka tweeted.

The Australian Open defending champion returned to action after her US Open third round loss to eventual finalist Leylah Fernandez of Canada in September last year.
