India's Nikhat Zareen wins gold at Women's World Boxing Championships
Istanbul/IBNS/UNI: India's Nikhat Zareen becomes world champion in the 52kg weight category after thrashing Thailand's Jutamas Jitpong by unanimous decision (5-0), here on Thursday.
Against her Thai opponent in the final, Zareen fought with brilliance and brought home the gold medal.
The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 in the Indian's favour.
On Wednesday, she registered a convincing 5-0 win over Brazil's Caroline De Almeida in the 52kg semi-final.
Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted: "Our boxers have made us proud! Congratulations to @nikhat_zareen for a fantastic Gold medal win at the Women's World Boxing Championship. I also congratulate Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda for their Bronze medals in the same competition."

The Telangana boxer was playing her second World Championships.
With this win, Zareen becomes only the fifth Indian women's boxer after Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha KC to win a gold at the World Championships.
