Indian coach Ravi Shastri takes COVID-19 vaccine

Ahmedabad/UNI: The Indian cricket team's chief coach Ravi Shastri received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, here on Tuesday.

Shastri took to twitter to express his gratitude for the frontline workers and scientists for helping the country in its fight against the virus.

"Got the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Thank you to the amazing medical professionals & scientists for empowering India against the pandemic," 58-year-old former India all-rounder tweeted.

He also thanked the staff at the Apollo Hospital where he received the first dose of the vaccine.

"Extremely impressed with the professionalism shown by Kantaben & her team at Apollo, Ahmedabad in dealing with COVID-19 vaccination," the former cricketer said in the tweet.

On Monday, the second phase of vaccination began for those above 60 years of age and those above 45 years of age with specified co-morbidities.

The Indian team is in the city to play the four-match Test series. The fourth and the last match of the series is slated to begin from Thursday. The home side is leading the series 2-1.

On the first day of the second phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and NCP chief Sharad Pawar were among those dignitaries who got first dose of the vaccine.
