England wins fourth test by an innings and 78 runs, regains the Ashes

England, needing just 3 wickets to complete the proceedings, did so within 62 balls in the morning of the third day as their bowlers bowled an immaculate line to get rid of the Australian tail.

Adam Voges (51), resuming his innings on 48, reached his half-century not before Australia were 9 down as a ruthless Ben Stokes and Mark Wood removed Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood for naught.

Stokes was at his devastating best, picking up 6 wickets while giving away 36 runs. Wood picked up 3 and the remaining wicket was picked up by Broad.

In the last Ashes series, Mitchell Johnson and his deadly bouncers traumatized the English sides throughout the series, culminating in Jonathan Trott’s retirement. They were paid back in the same coin when James Anderson with his swinging ability engulfed the Australian side in the last test and Stuart Broad landed a sucker-punch on them by picking up 8 wickets, reducing Australia to a mere 60 in the first innings of the fourth test.

Australia never recovered from the first innings blow, at least some of their batsmen, who got out playing similar strokes in the ensuing innings. There was a better response from the openers and Adam Voges, the rest committed elementary errors to hand the match to the English side.

England on the other hand turned tables after a royal thrashing they received at the Lord’s in the second test. Twice now, they pelted Australia in two successive tests and came out victorious.
