England score 343/7 on first day

Cardiff, July 8 (IBNS): A valiant 134 runs by Joe Root helped England post 343 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the first day of the first Test match here on Wednesday.

Gary Ballance (61) and Ben Stokes (52) joined Root in adding more than 300 runs on the scorecard.

Root hit 17 boundaries in his innings.

 

Mitchell Starc  and Josh Hazlewood took three wickets each.
