Debarshi snatched title from top seeds

Kolkata, Mar 30 (IBNS) Fifth seed Debarshi Mukherjee emerged champion in the just concluded "RKFL-KDCA Rapid Chess Tournament" for Kolkata District Chess Championship, sponsored by Ramkrishna Forgings Limited and organised by Kolkata District Chess Championship, held at Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology here.

He was not considered as fovourite among the title contenders at the beginning of this 9-round tournament.

But Debarshi had the last laugh after dramatic end of the tournament, when he snatched the title from 2nd seed Sayan Bose with better tie-break score, Both Debarshi and Sayan finished with 7.5 points at the end of 9th round.

Debarshi won cash prize award of Rs, 6000 along with a very nice trophy, while Sayan had to content with cash award of Rs. 5000 only.

Defending Commonwealth Champion GM Deep Sengupta and WGM Nisha Mohota gave away the prizes.
