Copenhagen/IBNS: Denmark's star footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field during today's Euro 2020 game against Finland in Copenhagen, after which the match was suspended for some time in the first half.

The 29-year-old footballer fell to the ground leaving the roaring crowd at the stadium silent and his teammates dumbfounded.

After 15 minutes, Eriksen was taken out of the field in a stretcher, followed by the rest of the Danish team as well as Finland's players.

"The UEFA EURO 2020 match in Copenhagen has been suspended due to a medical emergency," UEFA EURO 2020 tweeted.

Another tweet from the handle said Eriksen had been transferred to hospital.

BBC Radio 5 reported that the fans were in shock and many people were sitting not knowing what to do and waiting for more news on the the sick player's status.
"He is such an incredibly love player and a fabulously talented player we hope and pray for good news," said Pat Nevin, former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live.

However, BBC reported that Eriksen regained consciousness in the hospital and the game was going to be started.

The Danish FA has tweeted (via Google translate): "Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable. He remains hospitalized at Rigshospitalet for further examinations. The match against Finland will be played tonight. This happens after the players have been confirmed that Christian is okay. The match resumes at 20.30."

The news of resumption of the game was confirmed by UEFA tweet: "Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC).

"The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half."
