Copa America: Messi hangs his Argentina boots as they go down to Chile

East Rutherford,New Jersey, Jun 27 (IBNS): Moments after he missed a shot in a penalty shootout and his team was defeated by Chile, who lifted the Copa America silverware, Argentina skipper Lionel Messi announced his retirement.

The devastated Messi was quoted in the media as saying, "For me the national team is over. I've done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion."

He had earlier lost the last Copa America final to the same team. Messi and his team also emerged second best, behind Germany in the last FIFA World Cup final.

The Copa loss was his fourth loss in major event finals with the Argentina team.

Chile defeated Argentina 4-2.
