Badminton: Narendra Modi congratulates Indian Thomas Cup title winning side

New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian badminton team which clinched first-ever Thomas Cup title by beating Indonesia.

"The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons," Modi tweeted.

Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty created history as India defeated Indonesia to win the first-ever Thomas Cup gold medal on Sunday.

The Indian players beat the opponents 3-0.

It was Srikanth, who ensured gold for India, as he registered a 21-15, 23-21 win over the No. 8-ranked Jonatan Christie.
