Ashes Test: England struggle after asked to follow-on by Australia
England has put up 203 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their second innings, at the end of the third day’s play.
Resuming their batting on day three, the English batsmen added 42 runs to their overnight score before getting bowled out for 149.
Moeen Ali top scored with 30. The cricketer paired up with Mark Wood (24) to add 57 runs for the ninth wicket partnership.
Mitchell Johnson picked up the remaining two wickets to finish the innings with an impressive 3 for 21 runs.
The second innings provided little respite for the hosts as they lost early wickets. England captain Alaistair Cook was the only exception.
England’s skipper applied himself efficiently to score a gritty 85 off 234 deliveries before Steve Smith removed him. His knock comprised of 11 hits to the fence.
Bell (13), Root (11), Jonathan Bairstow (26) and Ben Stokes (0) failed to convert their initial starts.
Jos Buttler (33) and Mark Wood (0) are at the crease. Buttler along with Cook put up a 59 run partnership for the sixth wicket.
Making his comeback into the Test side, Aussie pacer Peter Siddle displayed some quality fast bowling as the speedster bowled an impressive 10 maiden overs in the 16 overs he delivered, while giving away 14 runs.
Siddle picked up a wicket, Lyon picked up 2. One each was picked up by Johnson, Smith and Marsh.
