Amazing achievement: Novak Djokovic congratulates Rafael Nadal

Melbourne: Tennis star Novak Djokovic on Sunday congratulated Rafael Nadal after he clinched the Australian Open to win the 21st Grand Slam of his career.

Novak tweeted: "Congratulations to  @RafaelNadal  for 21st GS. Amazing achievement. Always impressive fighting spirit that prevailed another time. Enhorabuena  @Medwed33  gave it his all out there and played with the passion and determination we have come to expect from him."

Spanish Tennis star Rafael Nadal put up a strong show to beat Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller to win the men's singles event of the Australian Open here on Sunday.

The Spanish icon beat his opponent 2-6,6-7,6-4,6-4,7-5 to grab his 21st major title.

This was  Nadal's second Australian Open title.

He set a new record by becoming the first man to clinch 21 major titles in his tennis career.

He is also the second man after Serbian Novak Djokovic to  win each Grand Slam at least twice in the Open Era.
