Single motherhood issue comes up in Tolly flick by Sudeshna-Abhijit duo
Kolkata, Sept 27 (IBNS) Continuing their experimentation with the comedy genre, Cross Connection director duo Sudeshna Roy-Abhijit Guha now takes up the social issue of single motherhood in their last film 'Mayer Biye.'
Abhijit-Sudeshna duo, one of the successful new age directors of Tollywood film industry, says the last film takes up the cause of single motherhood issue in the most hard hitting way.
"Mayer Biye (translated literally as Marriage of Mother) has no extra layers and nuances. It is unpretentiously direct to take up the issue of marriage of a single mom having warded off many unsolicited advice and curiosities from prying neighbours and relatives as faced by a single mom, played with fine sensibility by Sreelekha Mitra," Abhijit said.
"The mother single-handedly brings up her daughter. Which is not uncommon in Bengali society these days. And once the daughter sets off for her new innings in life at one point, she ponders what will happen to her mom in her absence as she will be travelling abroad."
Ashok Dhanuka of Eskay Movies says Mayer Biye is the first Eskay film to mark their stamp in a new middle of the road genre, but they hope to churn out more such productions if acclaimed by the audience.
The movie was premiered on Sept 26.
