Union ministers say Leftist and Maoist elements have taken control of farmers' protest

New Delhi/IBNS: Union Minister Piyush Goyal has alleged that certain Leftist and Maoist elements have taken control of the farmers' agitation which is going on for the past couple of days over the BJP-led NDA government's new farm laws.

Goyal said the Centre is ready to discuss all issues with the farmers but the agitation is controlled by Leftists and Maoists with other agendas.

"Govt is ready to discuss all the concerns of farmers," Goyal tweeted. "Unfortunately, it seems that certain Leftist, Maoist elements have taken control of the agitation, and rather than discussing on farmer issues, they seem to be having some other hidden agendas," he said.

Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Minister of Rural Development and Minister of Food Processing Industries Narendra Singh Tomar voiced similar opinion and said certain people are there who do not want a solution but take advantage of the situation.

"Earlier, the talks were held in a positive atmosphere, but there are certain people who are not interested in a solution, rather they want to take advantage of this movement," he told Zee News.

"In this movement, I could see faces of Left and those element involved with Delhi riots, trying to intrude. I would request farmers to save their movement from them. They would hamper the interests of farmers. In the coming days, there are reports that some secessionist forces are trying to create violence," the Minister said.

"I'm keeping a tab on such developments. The farmer union leaders have promised me that they will not allow any such element to take advantage of their stir," he told the news channel.

Several rounds of talks between agitating farmers and the Centre have taken place with no solution reached so far.

The farmers are demanding the repeal of three farm laws.
