Lucknow, Mar 15 (IBNS): A day after victory in Uttar Pradesh by-polls, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has thanked all people to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gorakhpur and Phulpur constituencies, media reports said.

Addressing the media, Akhilesh said: "Lotus wilted in Phulpur. Thanks to people."

"Earlier we used to receive bad words and languages from them (BJP). Now I think people's verdict will change the language" the former UP CM said.

Akhilesh has also said a complete analysis of the by-poll results will describe the kind of wins the SP has clinched.

He has also said the result will give a message to the country.

In both Gorakhpur and Phulpur seats, the SP and Mayawati's BSP contested by forming an alliance.

Both Gorakhpur and Phulpur seats were the bastions of UP CM Yogi Adityanath and deputy Cm Keshav Prasad Maurya respectively.

Akhilesh has also thanked Mayawati and workers of BSP for lending support to the SP in the by-polls.
