New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: India conducted the second night trial of its nuclear-capable Prithvi-2 missile on Friday from a test range in Odisha, said media reports, adding that the test was part of a user trial conducted for the army.

The nuclear-capable medium range surface to surface ''Prithvi-II'' missile  was successfully flight tested  from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at  Chandipur on sea, on the Orissa Coast today.

Friday evening's trial was conducted by Strategic Force Command, said a Hindustan Times report, citing people familiar with the matter.

Nine-metre tall, liquid-propelled Prithvi-2 missile can carry a 1 tonne warhead and has a range of over 250 km.

The first indigenous surface-to-surface strategic missile is the first to have been developed by DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.

The missile equipped with state-of-the-art guidance system has reached the specified targets with very high degree of accuracy. All the radars, electro-optical tracking systems and telemetry stations along the coast have monitored all the trajectory parameters of the vehicle throughout the mission.

The ship located near the target location has witnessed the final  event.

The missile, designed for quick maneuverability and war-time efficiency, soared into the clear blue sky fulfilling all the mission objectives.

ITR  sources said the liquid propelled twin Engine Prithvi Missile has already been inducted into service by the Armed Forces.

This is the 11th flight test of the surface-to-surface missile Defence Research and Development Organisation in 40 days.

The Strategic Force Command of the armed forces has conducted night trials monitored by the DRDO scientists as part of a training exercise.
