Nitish Kumar's JDU, BJP reach agreement in seat-sharing ahead of Bihar polls: Reports

| @indiablooms | Oct 04, 2020, at 04:27 pm

Patna/IBNS: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United (JDU) and its ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have reached an even seat-sharing agreement in principle ahead of the Bihar Assembly election, media reports said.

The JDU will get 122 of the 243 seats while the BJP will have 121, according to the arrangement, NDTV quoting sources said.

"While Mr Kumar's party will accommodate Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustani Awam Morcha within its quota, the BJP will give seats to Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party from its share if they remain in the alliance," NDTV quoting sources added.

The first elections in India amid the Covid-19 situation will be held in Bihar between Oct 28 and Nov 7.

In the first phase, 71 assembly seats in across 16 districts will go for the polls while 94 and 78 seats will have elections in the second and third phases respectively.

The last date for filing nominations is Oct 8. The election will be conducted in only three phases on Oct 28, Nov 3 and 7 while the results will be declared on Nov 10.
