NIA to probe 56 arms missing case: Manipur CM

Imphal, Mar 31 (IBNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe the missing case of 56 arms from the arms room of 2nd Manipur Rifles.

Manipur Chief Minister Nongthongbam Biren Singh on Saturday said that NIA will probe into the missing case of 56 pistols of 2nd Manipur Rifles.

"The arms missing case will be handed over to NIA soon," N Biren Singh said.

The Manipur Chief Minister said that the case is not only breaching of the state security but also the national security.

"The arms room of 2nd Manipur Rifles is under strict security vigil 24-hour and missing of arms is a big threat," N Biren Singh said.

The Manipur Chief Minister further said that the arms were brought in to the state in September 2014.

According to the reports, 56 nos 9mm pistol and 58 magazines are missing from the arms room of 2nd Manipur Rifles.

Following the incident, the Commanding Officer of 2nd Manipur Rifles had lodged an FIR at Imphal Police Station and a case has been registered.

N Biren Singh said that, this is the second time of such security related scandal after the Manipur Rifles uniform missing case and it was happened during 2014 to 2016 of previous regime.

The Manipur Chief Minister said that, five persons including two personnel of 2nd Manipur Rifles have been arrested into the arms missing case.

He suspected that there might be political involvement in the case.
