Mercedes driven by Meghalaya Health minister’s son hit motorbike, kills armed police personnel

Shillong, Apr 7 (IBNS) : A constable of armed Meghalaya police was killed and a jail officer was injured after a Mercedes car allegedly driven by Meghalaya Health minister’s son hit a motorbike near Shillong on Friday.

 The incident took place at 4 furlong Tri junction near Shillong at around 12-45 am last night where a dark blue private Mercedes, having temporary number, allegedly driven by 28-yearold Aibansharai Nongsiej, son of Meghalaya Health minister AL Hek, hit a motorbike, which was being driven by a jail officer Probin D. Sangma, with his occupant Probat R Marak, a constable of the armed Meghalaya police.

In the incident, two motorbiker received severe injuries.

The constable of the armed Meghalaya police, hailing from Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills, was declared brought dead at Shillong Civil Hospital and jail officer was admitted at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Shillong for his severe injuries.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya police had seized the Mercedes and the motorbike and started investigation.

Police are yet to record the statement of the jail official who is in critical condition.

Till now no one has been detained by the police.
