Kolkata, Oct 19 (IBNS): Kolkata and parts of south West Bengal are experiencing a bout of wet weather on Thursday, the day when everybody is celebrating Diwali or Kali Puja.

Lakshmi Puja is also celebrated on the day of Diwali in West Bengal.

The met office has predicted spells of thundershower on Thursday evening, according to media reports.

The region has been experiencing sporadic rain since Wednesday owing to a depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The Indian Meteorological Department has said that Kolkata will have a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers.

According to skymetweather.com, the weather system, which deposited moderate to heavy rains across the Odisha coast and south Bangladesh on Wednesday, is likely to move in a north-northwest direction and cross Odisha coast between Puri and Chandbali by Thursday night.

The site said that due to the close proximity of the weather system, Kolkata is likely to witness light moderate with one or two heavy spells on the eve of Diwali. It is anticipated by weather experts that these hefty showers will continue over Kolkata during the next 48 hours.
