Four alleged terrorists, planning big attacks, arrested

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IBNS) With less than a week to go before the Republic Day, the Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a group of four terrorists who allegedly planned to carry out attacks in the national capital and at the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, reports said.

The development comes after the Pathankot attacks earlier this month that called for high alert being sounded in Delhi and elsewhere in the country.

The suspects,  identified as Akhlaq ur-Rehman, Mohammed Osama, Mohammed Azim Shah and Mehroz, were arrested from Manglour town in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district on Tuesday and produced in a court here on Wednesday.

The court sent them to 15 days’ police custody.

Police, however, said it would be pemature to say that the accused belonged to any outfit. They have been booked under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Earlier this week, two persons with suspected al-Qaeda links were detained at Mewat in Haryana. However, the Delhi Police Special Cell has so far claimed to have arrested only one.
