Farmers withdraw protest from Noida Expressway, Noida-Delhi road opened for movement after 6 hrs

New Delhi: The farmers, who had been staging protests on the Noida Expressway, ended their agitation on Thursday evening after receiving assurances from the police and authorities regarding their demands.

After the blockade was removed, the Noida-Delhi route was reopened after a closure of six hours.

Since December 2023, farmers in Noida and Greater Noida have been demonstrating, demanding higher compensation, and developed plots in exchange for their land acquired by local development authorities in the past.

The farmers' groups called for a 'kisan mahapanchayat' and a protest march to Parliament in support of these demands.

The march led to massive traffic congestion at the Delhi-Noida border, causing the closure of all borders for 24 hours. To prevent any potential law and order issues, a heavy police presence was deployed.

After hours of protest, the farmers occupying the Noida Expressway opted to conclude their agitation following assurances from Gautam Budh Nagar Commissioner of Police Laxmi Singh that their demands would be addressed.

The Commissioner of Police also said that a committee would be formed under his oversight, tasked with engaging in discussions with representatives of the farmers within a week. State ministers will also participate in these discussions.
