Delhi govt delays budget, expected in March first week

New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: The Delhi government is expected to present the annual budget 2024–25 in the first week of March as the proposal to extend the session was passed in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

However, the date of the presentation of the budget in the house has not been finalised yet.

In his address on the first day of the Delhi budget session Thursday, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena highlighted the achievements of the AAP government in the sectors of education and health amid disruptions by BJP MLAs.

Later, a proposal to extend the budget session until the first week of March was passed by a 'voice vote' in the assembly.

Addressing the media, Finance Minister Atishi said the budget received the LG’s approval on Wednesday and was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Thursday.

“The process of the Delhi government’s budget preparation was delayed due to some reasons. The 2024–25 annual budget was placed before the Council of Ministers three days ago and sent to the LG two days ago. It received LG’s approval last night (Wednesday). It will be sent to MHA today for presidential assent,” Atishi said.

“MHA says the approval may take a minimum of 10 days or more. So it will be difficult to table the budget in the Legislative Assembly before February 25. Therefore, a proposal to extend the budget session until the first week of March was passed in the Legislative Assembly,” she added.
