Kolkata/IBNS: National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma, who was on a two-day visit to West Bengal, has alleged that the state government took no action against over 260 complaints, giving an ultimatum to the local administration.

Sharma said she would submit a report to the country's Home Ministry if she receives no response for the next 15 days.

The chairperson said she would write to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The commission has raised concern over the rise in women trafficking in north Bengal and the tribal belt.

During her two-day visit, Sharma also visited West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and raised convern over the issue.

Countering the claims, West Bengal Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Shashi Panja, told India Blooms, "I think it is better if they (the commission) substantiate the allegation. Let them substantiate it."

"I hope they had visited Hathras also," Panja said, taunting the NCW.
