Srinagar/UNI: An Army soldier died by shooting himself with his service rifle in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said panic gripped Chatergul camp at Kangan in Ganderbal when a firing shot was heard this morning.

However, other Army personnel present in the camp rushed to the area and found a soldier in a pool of blood.

He was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The deceased was identified as Jagmeet Singh, son of Makhan Singh, a resident of Haryana.

It was not immediately clear why the soldier took this extreme step, they said adding police Kangan has registered a case and initiated proceedings.

Number of suicide among the security force personnel, engaged in counter militancy operations, has not stopped even after administration introduced Yoga and Art of Living to help soldiers to come out from the stress.
