Amit Shah's roadshow pulls massive crowd in West Bengal's Santiniketan

Santiniketan/UNI: With chanting of "Jai Sri Ram" renting the air, a sea of humanity on Sunday took part in Union Home Minister Amit Shah's one km long roadshow here.

Making inroads into Trinamool Congress bastion, Mr Shah's march generated huge response as the road from Dakbunglo to Chowrasta decorated with saffron flags and colourful baloons was choc-a-bloc.

People were seen in scores atop the terrace of houses in the residential areas, where Mr Shah was the cynosure of all eyes on his maiden visit to Bolpur.

Besides Mr Shah, BJP Rajya Sabha member Swapan Dasgupta was on the open hooded truck.

Other leaders were state party president Dilip Ghosh, Union Minister Debashree Chowdhury, Anupam Hazra and others were on the march.

In the roadshow on a separate truck the baul singers were also accompanying Mr Shah.

Earlier, Mr Shah paid rich floral tributes to poet Rabindranath Tagore and said, "Kabirguru not only spread the Bharatiya bhasha and Sanskriti across the world but also helped enrich them into totality".

Mr Shah said the poet made India proud for his literary creation and by the establishment of a world famous institution -Santiniketan-and adding, " We are fortunate that his composition became the national anthems of two nations."

India and Bangladesh national anthems were composed by Gurudev Rabindranth Tagore, he said.

Talking to reporters after visiting the Santiniketan campus, Mr Shah said the Nobel Committee also enriched itself by giving Nobel Prize to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

He said the poet was also inspiration to country's two great leaders Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and added that he was very fortunate to visit this great institution, which was founded by the poet.

Elated with the surge of people, Mr Shah stated that he had never witnessed such a sea of humanity at a roadshow in his political life and said this indicated that the people are ready for a change of guard  in West Bengal.

To cover the 1-km roadshow from Dak Bunglow to Chowrasta took much more time because of assembly of people in thousands across the road and prevented the open hooded truck  from moving in which Mr Shah was riding.

At the end of the show Mr Shah took the microphone and said this sea of humanity was indicating that the people were with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seeking for change of guard in the assembly polls in 2021.

He called upon the people to give BJP a chance to rule for five years and assured the state would turn into "Sonar Bangla".

He said the people gave Congress 30 years to rule and Left for three decades and ten years to Mamata Banerjee.

"I assure you if you elect the BJP to rule for five years the state would see a surge of  development," he told the crowd.

He said the assembly of people in the roadshow proved that they have faith in the Modiji and vented ire on the Mamata government.

He said Bengal needed a change for ending "corruption, extortion, misrule and dadagiri of bhaipo".

Mr Shah also dared Mamata Banerjee to face people in the election as he pointed towards the sea of humanity in the roadshow.
