Mumbai, Feb 10 (IBNS): The protest rally consisting of nearly 30,000 farmers who have been congregating in Thane, Maharashtra, since Friday evening, plan to march to Mumbai on Monday to demand complete waiver of loans and electricity bills by the state government, according to media reports.

The protesting farmers, members of  the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), affiliated to the Communist Party of India-Marxist, plan to 'gherao' the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the state legislature on March 12 to push for their demands, media reports said.

According to reports, the farmers began their 180km long walk on March 5 fro the CBS Chowk in Nashik.

Local reports said that the farmers, most of them wearing red caps and holding up flags with the sickle and hammer symbol, are covering 30km on foot every day.

The farmers say their main demand is for a waiver of all loans and the implementation of the Swaminathan Committee report, which says farmers should be paid one and a half times the cost of production for what they produce and the MSP's should be fixed keeping this in mind, reported NDTV.
