Turkey Military Coup: NATO keeping a close eye, says Secretary General

Brussels/Ankara, July 16 (IBNS): Condemning the incident and extending its support to Turkey, where a military coup took place on Friday evening, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the organisation is keeping an eye on the incident.

Stoltenberg also urged people to remain calm.

Full text of NATO Secretary General's statement:

I have just spoken to the Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. I am following events in Turkey closely and with concern.

I call for calm and restraint, and full respect for Turkey's democratic institutions and its constitution. Turkey is a valued NATO Ally.
