Torontonians support bike lanes in city poll

Toronto, Oct 5 (IBNS): According to a new poll released this week, Torontonians have aided their overwhelming support for bike lanes in the city.

The Forum Research poll, that randomly selected 882 city voters, found that 70 percent of respondents were in the opinion of having bike lanes overall and more than half said they support the new bike lanes on Bloor Street.

The downtown Toronto and the East York, where the vast majority of the bike lanes are located, recorded the highest number of support, accounting to 79 percent.

Mothers and young respondents who commute by the transit as well as the bicycle responded in favour of the bicycle lanes more.

The poll also showed that 63 percent of respondents who travel in private vehicles still supported bike lanes.

About half of those surveyed mentioned they would like to see the Bloor Street bike lanes extended to the Don Valley Parkway.

Forum Research President Lorne Bozinoff in his analysis accompanying the poll said, “These lanes have obviously been something of a success, and even the majority of drivers favour them.”
