Security forces, militants clash close to Baghdad

Baghdad, June 17 (IBNS): Iraq security forces were engaged in clashes with militants close to the Baghdad city, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to reports,  militants, who are aligned with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, had briefly taken over  Baquba  city on Monday.

Baquba is just 60kms from Baghdad.

Forty four prisoners were killed during clash at a police station in Baqouba, reports said.

The prime minister of Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region, Nechirvan Barzani, has told the BBC he believes Iraq may not stay together as Sunni areas feel neglected by the Shia-dominated Iraqi government.
