Manila. Aug 12 (IBNS): At least 10 people were killed as an explosion hit Parañaque City Jail in Philippines on Thursday, media reports said.

In an interview with the Inquirer, Senior Supt. Jose Carumba, Parañaque police chief, said that they are investigating whether or not the 10 inmates who died in the blast had actually tried to escape from prison by first seeking a dialogue with the warden, Supt.

Eight prisoners, who were killed in the explosion, were jailed due to drug-related crimes, reports said.

The  warden of the Parañaque City Jail was injured in the explosion.
