Iran targets Gulf: Drones hit Kuwait, missiles fired at Qatar, Saudi Arabia intercepts 15
Fuel tanks at Kuwait airport were targeted, and at least 15 drones were intercepted in Saudi Arabia as Iran continued attacks across the Gulf, a day after its President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran would not strike neighbouring countries.
Qatar’s defence ministry said the country had been targeted a day earlier by 10 ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles fired from Iran.
Most of the projectiles were intercepted, and no casualties were reported.
Kuwait’s national oil company announced a “precautionary” reduction in crude production after the country’s military responded to what it described as a wave of hostile drones that entered its airspace. Authorities said the attack amounted to a direct targeting of vital infrastructure.
A separate statement said some civilian facilities suffered material damage after fragments from intercepted drones fell in the area.
In Saudi Arabia, authorities said air defences intercepted multiple drones, including some heading towards the diplomatic quarter in the capital, Riyadh.
New incidents were also reported in Qatar, while debris from an interception reportedly fell on a vehicle in Dubai, killing a Pakistani driver.
In a rare televised address, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the country was going through “a period of war” but would “emerge stronger”.
Iran’s President Pezeshkian had earlier said Tehran would not attack neighbouring countries, though he added that Iran would not surrender. Hours later, Iran’s judiciary chief said strikes would continue against sites in Gulf countries that were “at the disposal of the enemy”.
UAE
At Dubai International Airport, the world’s second-busiest airport, operations were briefly halted after explosions were reported across the city. Passengers were moved into train tunnels as a loud blast was heard and smoke rose nearby.
Dubai’s media office later said a minor incident occurred after debris from an interception fell near the airport.
According to the UAE defence ministry, 221 ballistic missiles and more than 1,300 drones have been detected since the war began on February 28. Apart from the airport in Dubai, strikes have also affected Abu Dhabi airport, the Palm Jumeirah development, the Burj Al Arab and the US consulate in Dubai.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said it destroyed three ballistic missiles heading towards Prince Sultan Air Base, which hosts American troops. Air defences also intercepted 17 drones over the Shaybah oil field in the country’s southeast.
Bahrain
Bahrain said it had intercepted 92 missiles and 151 drones since the start of what it described as “brutal Iranian aggression”, with residents of the capital Manama reporting intermittent explosions.
Lebanon
In Beirut, four people were killed and 10 injured in a strike on a hotel. Lebanon’s health ministry said eight more people were killed in strikes on more than 20 towns and villages.
The Israeli military said it carried out a “precise strike” in Beirut targeting commanders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards operating in the country.
Qatar
Qatar said Iran fired about a dozen missiles at the country. Authorities said six ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles were intercepted. Two ballistic missiles fell in territorial waters, while two landed in an uninhabited area.
