Tehran/IBNS: At least 35 people were killed as a stampede occurred at the funeral of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in the southeastern city of Kerman on Tuesday, media reports said.

The deaths led to the postponement of Qasem Soleimani's burial. A new time will be announced later, officials told BBC.

Soleimani, who was killed during a US airstrike on Friday, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Kerman.

He was the chief of the Iranian elite Quds Force.

The relationship between Iran and the US has touched new low following the killing of Soleimani on Friday.

Soleimani was considered as the second most powerful man in Iran after the country's Supreme Leader Khamenei.

Iran vowed harsh revenge over the general's killing.
