Indian Catholic priest stabbed inside Melbourne church

Fawkner, Melbourne, Mar 20 (IBNS): An elderly man has been charged with stabbing an Indian Catholic priest inside a church in Australia's Melbourne, reports said.

The incident took place on Sunday, during mass, in Fawkner, a suburb in Melbourne.

The 72-year-old attacker has been charged with intentionally and recklessly causing injury, the Herald Sun reported.

The victim, identified as Father Tomy Kalathoor Mathew, hails from the Indian state of Kerala.

He was stabbed in the neck and received treatment at The Northern hospital.

The incident has been viewed as a hate crime.
