London/IBNS: The British royal family is "saddened" to learn how challenging the last few years have been for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, adding that allegations of racism made by the couple in an interview with Oprah Winfrey have been "taken very seriously," the Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan," the statement by the Palace reads.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately."

The statement adds: "Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."

The couple during the interview revealed that they had lacked support from the Royal family.

Markle said concerns were also raised over their son Archie's skin colour.

The interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with Oprah Winfrey went explosive as the American actor revealed she did not want to remain alive while she was in the Royal family.

In the interview, Markle said, "That’s the sad irony of the last four years is I have advocated for so long for women to use their voice, and then I was silent."

"I just didn’t want to be alive anymore," the 39-year old added.
