CNE2017 fair opens with several new features

Toronto, Aug 20 (IBNS): Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), one of North America’s largest annual fairs, got underway on Aug 18 with several new features offering 18 days of performances from the latest innovations in technology and commercial products combined with amusement park rides, midway games, entertainment, air show, delicious food, concerts and several other special events.

The CNE will be open from 10 a.m. to midnight from Aug 18  till Sept 3.

Founded in 1879,  CNE this year offers several innovative features such as Unity Pole,  CNE Gaming Garage, MZ Laser-Laser Illusion Experience, East Coast Kitchen Party, Carving and many more.

Unity Pole features 25 foot emblematic indigenous cedar pole carved by Ojibway artist Kris Nahrgang. It was displayed at Heritage Court, Encarve Garden.

CNE Gaming Garage features e-sport tournament and prize money, pinball tournament and prize money, play-to-win table top games, interactive VR and gaming demonstrations, video game dance floor and many more.

National sand sculpting competition was on display throughout the day at the Enercare Centr. It showcased indigenous carves, butter sculptures and sand sculptures.

Tons of sands were carved and transformed by competitors across the country into magnificent sculptures to get the top prizes.

Nancy, an Italian woman liked one of the specimens in sand and voted for that to get the first prize.

Canadian Armed Forces Interactive Display was held west side of Enercare Centre, outside Heritage Court and presented with the military vehicles, like guns, armed forces jeeps etc.  and was filled with fun atmosphere as children accompanied by their parents inspected each sight and asked questions.

When Sonu, a ten year old boy was asked what was his favourite item there, he said canon, pointing out to a huge canon which was demonstrated by the staff there.

Sangeeta, a 7-year old girl and a new immigrant was fascinated by the sight of the Fighter Jet cockpit and asked the staff to explain to her its functions.

The Enercare Centre and the Heritage Court Galley exhibited a panaromfactsic exhibits of photos and aritifacts.

Heritage Court was filled with approximately 5000 audiences who were about to watch the acrobatics and ice skating shows.

A Phillipine student named Mila said she had been watching this show for the past three years and had been thrilled by it.

Many of the photos and artifacts are from indigenous people.

These were greatly admired and a group of children accompanied by their Art Teacher, Sandy was trying to explain to them the history of the Indigenous people and their culture.

The Quilt of Belonging which exhibited 263 quilted squares, as explained by the staff named Molly, represented 71 indigenous groups besides immigrant nationalities found in Canada.

Toronto Star Food Building was one of the most popular spot for the food lovers and foods of different origins were served; some of the most favorites being rib rest at Bandshell Park, French’s Food Truck Frenzy.

There was also demonstration from the celebrity Chefs Jamie Kennedy at Enercare Centre, Hall A at Home Pavilion. Craft Beer Festival was another hit and there many singers enjoying with beer and merry making.

Kids’ World hosted daily from 10 am – 8 p.m. was  another highlight of the exhibition which was filled with merry children from different cultures enjoying the multicultural fun activities on the west end of the CNE grounds.

The popular kids’ entertainments were: MAJINX’S Tribute to the Magic of Canada, Barney, DuffeBag Theatre: Robin Hood, DuffeBag Theatre: Beary & the Beast, Mike the Knight, Splash’N Boots, Bob the Builder and many more.

Other popular shows of the CNE are: Canadian International Air Show at the CNE Waterfront, The President’s Choice SuperDogs CanaDogs Show at the Enercare Centre, Hall D, Celebrate Canada at Enercare Centre, Heritage Court Gallery, CNE Aquarama, Mardi Gras Parade and several other international performances.
