Canada: Brampton house fire kills three

| | Feb 15, 2017, at 02:42 am
Toronto, Feb. 14 (IBNS): Peel Regional Police received a call shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday about a fire on Madison Street, near Dixie Road and Bovaird Drive East, near Toronto, media reports said.

Three people had died and a child received serious injuries due to house fire.

A young girl with third-degree burns and smoke inhalation was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children.

"It's tragic, certainly — the number of people who have died here," said Brampton fire Chief Michael Clark, who was at the scene Tuesday morning, CBCNews reports said.

Clark told CBC reporters on Tuesday morning that a basement tenant was able to rescue a girl after flames broke out.

The relationship between the three people who died and the young girl was not clear, added Clark

Emergency services and the coroner and a representative for the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal remained at the scene of the fire.

The fire which started on the main floor had broken out through the front window.

It took fire crews about 10 minutes to get it under control, Clark said.

Neighbouring communities in townhouses were safe, police said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
