6.5 earthquake rocks New Zealand

Wellington, Nov 14 (IBNS): A day after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand, another quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter Scale hit the nation on Monday, as per the USGS website.

As per the USGS website, the quake hit west-south-west of Kaikoura town.

The epicentre of the quake, which hit at 00:34:22 UTC, was located at latitude 42.586 degrees South and longitude 173.284 degrees East and at a depth of 10 kms.

An earthquake measuring 6.3 in magnitude has hit New Zealand's South Island, hours after at least two people were killed by an initial quake, BBC reported.

Residents along the east coast are rescuing and evacuating people.
