World XI series: ICC team visits Gaddafi Stadium to review security situation

Lahore, Sept 5 (IBNS): A special security team of the International Cricket Council (ICC) visited the Gaddafi Stadium in order to review security arrangements before the upcoming series between World XI and Pakistan.

Marking a significant return of international cricket in Pakistan, a World XI side will visit Pakistan to play a series in the country.

The two-member ICC team had arrived in Lahore yesterday to evaluate the security arrangements for the series, dubbed Independence Cup 2017, which will be played on September 12, 13 and 15 at the city’s Gaddafi Stadium, which hosted the PSL final earlier this year, Geo News reported.

According to reports, tickets for the series are fast selling out.

Captained by South African Faf du Plessis, the World XI side is scheduled to arrived in Lahore on Sept 11.

The battle on the field is expected to be tough as Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year by beating Virat Kohli's India in the final.

World XI squad: Faf du Plessis (captain, South Africa), Hashim Amla (South Africa), Samuel Badree (West Indies), George Bailey (Australia), Paul Collingwood (England), Ben Cutting (Australia), Grant Elliott (New Zealand), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh), David Miller (South Africa), Morne Morkel (South Africa), Tim Paine (wicketkeeper) (Australia), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Imran Tahir (South Africa), Darren Sammy (West Indies).
