Tokyo Olympics: India lose 1-2 to Argentina, to play for bronze medal against Great Britain

Tokyo: India received another jolt in hockey as the women's team this time failed to reach the final of Tokyo Olympics event as the eves were defeated by Argentina here on Wednesday.

Argentina, considered as one of the toughest opponents in the world, defeated Indian team 2-1.

The Indian eves put up a strong show against Argentina.

India will now play to win the bronze medal.

Gurjit Kaur provided India with an early break by converting a penalty corner.

Argentina bounced back in the second quarter as captain Noel Barrionuevo scored the equaliser to make the scoreboard 1-1.

She once again delivered by scoring another goal in the third quarter to put her team ahead of India and slowly end India's hope to reach the final.

India will now face the mighty Great Britain in the bronze medal match.

Indian PM Narendra Modi tweeted: "One of the things we will remember #Tokyo2020 for is the stupendous performance by our Hockey teams. Today and through the Games, our Women’s Hockey team played with grit and showcased great skill. Proud of the team. Best of luck for the game ahead and for future endeavours."
